When Spring comes along we never forget to dust the mantlepieces, throw out old clothes from our wardrobes, and deep Glean the oven. However people often forget that our roofs see the worst of the winter weather, and therefore deserve far more attention that what's inside the house!
Devon has seen some strange weather trends recently. We experienced a seemingly warm winter in 2015, but [n the first few months of 2016 we were struck with freezing cold spells interchanged with beautiful sunny days. All of these changing weather patterns and
fluctuating temperatures may have had a negative impact on your roof.
Here are a few tips on what to look for post-winter, and how best to prepare for Spring -whether we are blessed with sun and warmth, or hit with the April showers:
Cheek for damage:
Winter weather such as increased rainfall and decreased tem peratures may have caused some damage to your roof. This is worth checking out. you have a shingle roof, damaged, broken or missing shingles should be easy enough to spot. If your roof is looking worn or damaged, we advise you to contact us here at SS Roofing so we can make sure there is no lasting or severe damage.
Winter weathers can often leave your gutters clogged with debris such as tree branches and leaves. This can cause water to overflow from the gutters which can in turn damage the foundations of your building. We f rstly recommend that you clean out the debris and then give your gutters a hose down so they are ready and prepared for any April showers.
Piping and metal areas:
Any piping or metal areas on your roof should also be checked out when approaching spring. Moisture is more likely to accumulate under the roof covering around material that is loose around the pipes. f you see loose material on your roof, give SS Roofng a call, and one of our roofing specialists can come and sort it out. If you spot any fungus, algae or rust accumulating around the metal areas of your roof, you can try using a wire brush to remove them, and then primer and paint over the metal. However, we again recommend giving us a call so one of our roofing specialists can come and survey the problem, and assess what course of action should be taken to prevent permanent and lasting damage to your roof.
We hope these top tips will help you to prepare your roof for Spring, so you are ready for whatever weather the coming months may throw at us down here in Devon! FOr any further questions of advice, don't hesitate to give us a call here at SS Roofing.
